Background of the Study
Training programs are a key component of Human Resource Development (HRD) practices in organizations. In the manufacturing industry, effective training is crucial for improving employee skills, boosting productivity, and maintaining high standards of product quality (Nwoye & Adediran, 2024). Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN) is a leading food processing company with substantial operations in Borno State, and it invests heavily in training programs to enhance the capabilities of its workforce.
Training programs in manufacturing firms focus on improving technical skills, safety standards, and operational efficiency. However, while FMN conducts regular training for its employees, there is limited research on the effectiveness of these training programs in enhancing employee performance and meeting organizational goals. The alignment between training outcomes and organizational needs is essential for ensuring that investments in training lead to meaningful improvements in productivity and employee competence (Ademola & Olanrewaju, 2023).
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of FMN’s training programs in Borno State and their impact on employee performance, skills development, and overall organizational success.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the importance of training programs in improving employee skills and performance, there is insufficient evidence on how effective Flour Mills' training programs are in achieving their intended outcomes in Borno State. Ineffective training programs may result in employees not fully utilizing the skills learned, leading to underperformance, inefficiencies, and missed opportunities for improvement (Bassey & Sulaimon, 2023). This gap in research calls for an evaluation of the effectiveness of training programs at FMN and their impact on workforce performance.
